Book Review – Savage As Hell (The Demon Academy 3) by G. Bailey

This was my first series by G. Bailey. I liked the first book of this trilogy even if the ending was unexpected. Everything seemed to go downhill from there. The love interests never felt well established, even with the epilogue. I enjoyed the entry into this world and Alexandria discovering about her heritage at the Academy, but the addition of Lucifer’s story arc introduced so soon kind of ruined this for me. I also wasn’t a fan of how he was defeated with the plot mechanics. I was disappointed with this ending since the premise and book 1 had so much promise. (3/5 rating)

Book Review – Angels’ Blood (Guild Hunter 1) by Nalini Singh

This was my second series by Nalini Singh. Vampire hunter, Elena Deveraux, calls New York City her home. That home also belongs to Archangel Raphael. Forced to work with him to bring a rogue Archangel to heel, Elena must remain on guard as her list of enemies grows rapidly and includes her traitorous heart. I struggled to rate this one, since my expectations were high, and this fell a bit flat for me in places. Singh created a suspenseful but stunning atmosphere in this version of New York. I enjoyed Elena as a strong, fighting female. Raphael was a beautifully flawed character, but I was frustrated with how much information he withheld from Elena until the end. I also struggled with Dimitri’s character arc and where it stands at the end. I liked this book’s version of how vampires are created. The plot moved quickly, but the romance aspect felt stalled. I likely need to read book 2 to see how some of these issues are resolved. (3/5 rating)

Book Review – Reaper Unleashed (Deadside Reapers 7) by Debbie Cassidy

This was my first series by Debbie Cassidy. Seraphina is raised in the human world until she discovers she has both Reaper and shapeshifter abilities within herself. Cora is her best friend that she somehow manifested after the death of the woman who adopted her. The world is chaos by this book, including a massive war and insurrection in the underworld, an energy imbalance between the realms threatening collapse, myths of the world making appearances and even the creation of super vampires that are impossible to kill. I’m grateful I found this author since this series became a quick favorite. While this is the end of Fee’s story, the next series based here follows her friend Cora’s life. – which I will be adding to my TBR. This world and various plot chains were as spellbinding as her characters were compelling. I loved watching Fee claim her heritage for both her werewolf and demon sides. The pace stayed at a quick clip and kept me reading late into the night. (4/5 rating)

Book Review – Feather (Angels of Elysium 1) by Olivia Wildenstein

Checked out with my kindle unlimited membership in January 2023 to try this angel book by Wildenstein. Leigh is a fletching angel trying to finish her wings. She takes on Jarod Adler because is she saves him; she could complete her set and ascend to Elysium. After she meets him though, he puts all her angelic rules to the test. I am really torn about how to rate this book. I loved Leigh and Jarod and Leigh choosing herself for once. I loved the world and the angel rating system much better than other angel tales I’ve read so far, BUT I HATED the ending. I’m sure I’ll work up to reading book 2, but it won’t be today. Book Review – Can’t Fix Cupid by Raven Kennedy

Our female main character, Trix, is a Cupid with wonky powers that don’t work right but she’s determined to make at least one person fall in love. In steps our male main character, Warren Knight. He’s the resident CEO, perennial bachelor and determined not to create attachments. Trix has her work cut out for her in this showdown of wills to keep her Cupid job. This was just what I needed today since I laughed through most of it. I loved Trix and her attitude. I enjoyed the unique plot line and the awesome array of background characters. (My favorite was Blue.) I needed this book from a favorite author to break up my reading slump and this Cupid love story did just that. I may have to move Kennedy’s full Cupidity series higher on my TBR list. (4/5 rating)

Book Review – The Demon’s Pet (Rise of the Morningstar 1) by Domino Savage

This was my first novel by Domino Savage. After a wolf shifter is condemned by her Alpha, she is slated for execution. Cleo is rescued from certain death by an infamous celestial executioner with black wings but that comes with a price. Cleo agrees to help Sam exact justice for a past wrong. As their journey progresses chaos erupts and Cleo discovers a secret about herself that could change their world forever. This story broke me out of my current reading slump as this was action-packed from the first few pages. I enjoyed the political issues that were occurring between the various realms and species. Savage has created truly multi-dimensional characters that added wonderful depth to the overall atmosphere. This is fraught with betrayals and abuses of power within this barbaric new world. Sam and Cleo quickly became two of my favorite characters of all time with their banter. Everyone needs to give this a try. (5/5 rating)
